Poole
For
sailings to Cherbourg, Poole is your best option. The port is easily
accessible, with a choice of routes into town. At the terminal there
are commission-free bureau de change facilities, car and caravan
parking and, in the summer months, a restaurant and bar.
Poole
is a historic port. The town centres around the old Poole
quay. The attractions include Poole pottery and the aquarium
along with the large harbour. If you take the ferry from Poole
it is worth having a look at the scenery from the deck at the Purbeck
hills.
Cherbourg
High speed service is available. Journey time can be as little as
130 minutes - great when speed is of the essence. Cherbourg offers
excellent road links via the N13 to the whole of France. It also has
a selection of outstanding seafood restaurants on the quayside, plus
more gems hidden in the quaint back streets.
Cherbourg has a history that goes back to at least Roman
times. The old part of the town is centred around the old
basin, the fishing port. The town is worth a visit even if you
are just going to the hypermarkets, the biggest is in Carrefour at
Octeville on the N13.
