Can I Take My Dog on Ferries?
Some ferry companies allow you to take your pet dogs on ferries, while others do not. Those that do have strict requirements you need to fulfil a long time in advance of your trip, so make sure you're well prepared before your trip otherwise your beloved Bruno may have to stay at home.
DEFRA Certificate
A valid DEFRA approved veterinary certificate showing that your dog has been microchipped, vaccinated and blood tested for antibodies to rabies is required before taking your dog on board the ferr. Your pet may not re-enter the UK until 6 calendar months has elapsed from the date the blood sample was taken. Therefore please allow at least 7 months for vaccinations before travel.
Where does your dog stay during the crossing?
For some journeys your dogs will stay in the provided kennels on board the ship. Others require that your pets stay in the escorts vehicles. Only guide dogs are permitted in the passenger areas of the ship. You should check with your ferry service their rules on taking dogs before making your booking.
